A&P Plastic Licenses mandated by March 2013

This was passed along by Bill Bauer of Dassault Falcon Technical Support :

I just returned from an AMT meeting in Houston and thought I would send out this reminder concerning A&P licenses and Pilot licenses… I was reminded of this by the local FAA… so in case you have not already done so…

Certified airframe and powerplant mechanics are required to upgrade to a new “plastic” certificate or lose their A&P privileges. The regulation went into effect on March 31 last year with little fanfare, leaving most mechanics in the dark. An FAA spokesman said, “Except for temporary certificates issued under §65.13, the holder of a paper certificate may not exercise the privileges of that certificate after March 31, 2013.” Application can be made at the FAA’s registry Web site for a $2.00 fee. Stay in touch with your FAAST Representative, FSDO or ASI for the most current information.
